Councillor Alistair Swatridge (Captain RFA Retd) moved to Great Bowden in June 2006, following 30 years Naval Service and with his wife became involved with petitions to: Save our NHS from further cuts, Protect the potential loss of Harborough Rail services following a new rail company franchise, and recently to save the community hospital from closure. As a relatively young retired Naval officer, he has commited his time to serving his local community. He was elected as a District Councillor on 3rd May 2007 and Deputy Leader in May 2008 .
Alistair says "Having recently retired early from my Naval career due to ill health, I am now still young enough to to continue the service I have given to this county over the past 30 years, by working closer to home and serving my local community. I wish to champion the issues and concerns that are important to those of us who live, work or visit this Ward of Market Harborough and use this web site to improve communications to all residents on current issues affecting us within Market Harborough. I thank all those who voted in the recent local elections giving Great Bowden and Arden a 40% turn out. I wish to particularly thank all those who supported me at the election and in my campaign. I was deeply humbled by the amount of support shown giving me the largest number of votes cast. This after having only lived here for 11 months is just unbelievable and has given me a new purpose and direction to my career and life. I am extremely grateful - thank you”.
"I would invite you to contact me, as your elected representative, with your local concerns and issues that I may, on your behalf, represent or voice them within the Harborough District Council or assist you in representing your views or concerns with other Government bodies and Authorities."
